SEO for Video - Get Your Videos Noticed
Recently, Google started ranking videos much higher than they did in the past. Smart marketers take note: this is where the industry is headed. Fortunately, optimizing video for the search engines is quite simple to do.
The first thing is to format your video correctly. Using Windows Explorer you should ensure it is not saved as a read only file. Next, right click the file, select Properties, and rename the file to incorporate your desired keywords, using hyphens to separate words (e.g. "carpets-for-sale"). Next, go to the Summary tab and provide a keyword rich title and description about your video.
A few words on the technical stuff. The video should play at a minimum of 12 frames per second with a bit rate over 260kb per second. When recording your video, try to use a ratio of 4:3, as this is how Google will crop your video in its results.
If your video is small (under 100MB) you can upload it directly to Google Video. If it's larger, or you intend to upload several videos at once, consider the Google Video Uploader client software, which makes the process much easier.
At the Google Video site, include the relevant keywords, title and description in the text boxes Google provides. Then, choose a category for the video, make the video public and upload your video.
Google Video, like YouTube, will host the video for you. It will also provide code which you can place on your site (which you should!) without wasting valuable bandwidth.
SEO for video is simple, and provides an exciting new avenue for online marketers. It is also a great way to create viral material, as people are more likely to pass on interesting videos to their friends and colleagues.
